National Public Works Week May 21-26, 2006 National Public Works Week is observed each year during the third full week of May. Across the nation, American Public Works Associationís (APWA) 27,000 members use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of the contribution of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing and operating the essence of our local communities. This year, the theme was, "Public Works: The Heart Of Every Community," to show the central part public works plays in the life of a community. This year, the Economy Borough Public Works Department sponsored a short class and demonstration on May 25th for K-4th grade students of the Economy Borough Elementary School. The subject was safety around work zones. The Road Department Foremen, Earl Fitzgerald gave a short interactive introduction to safety sign and procedures. That was followed by a hands-on display of some of the boroughís road equipment by workers Jim Blumling, Rich Dunn, Frank Hernandez, Terry Kifer, and Mike Maker. |
